The Wisdom Tooth Extraction Process

Typically, wisdom teeth are removed one of two ways – simply or surgically. First, we will administer local anesthesia to keep you calm and pain-free throughout the procedure. If the tooth has partially erupted, we may need to make a small incision in the gums to expose more of its structure before using specialized dental instruments to remove it. Dental pliers and an elevator work together to detach the tooth from its socket.

For impacted wisdom teeth, Dr. Ashraghi will need to perform a more complex procedure that involves opening the gum tissue to expose the underlying tooth structure. She will remove it in sections so that most of the bone remains untouched.

Once the procedure is complete, clean gauze is placed over the surgical sites, and you’ll be instructed to gently bite down to encourage blood clotting. You’ll be provided with detailed aftercare instructions to ensure that you heal successfully and swiftly.
