Getting the Most Out of Your Veneers

By Alpine Dental

Veneers are a popular solution in cosmetic dentistry because they address a variety of issues ranging from discoloration to chips to misalignment. These durable porcelain shells are custom created to match your natural teeth in color and placement to hide any imperfections, as well as provide protection from additional breakage or decay.

Now that preparation and installation are complete, caring for your prosthetics properly ensures that your newly-perfected smile stays that way. Continue reading to learn how you can get the most out of your veneers!

Keep Up Your Routine for Prolonged Lifespan of Your Veneers

Whether or not your corrective treatment resulted from poor hygiene habits in the past, you need to establish a thorough dental routine to maintain good oral health. Not only will this keep cavities and gum disease at bay, but it will go a long way towards getting the most benefit from your veneers. Perform the following tasks daily for optimal results:

  • Brushing. Use a nonabrasive toothpaste and soft toothbrush.
  • Flossing. This removes any plaque growth from around your teeth and below your gums.
  • Rinsing.  Stick with an alcohol-free option or ask your dentist for recommendations.

This will protect your hardware as well as keep your mouth healthy.

Watch What You Eat with Your Veneers

Nothing would be worse than going through all the work to have veneers placed just to turn around and break them. With that in mind, there are some foods to steer clear of that can chip them, or cause other damage, including:

  • Steak or other meats that are difficult to bite into
  • Crunchy, raw vegetables
  • Hard foods like nuts, candy, or chips
  • Acidic foods and beverages (which can erode the bonding material)

You might also want to stay away from enamel-staining foods. After all, your natural teeth may become discolored, but the veneers will not. This could eventually lead to a visual discrepancy. Some notorious examples

  • Coffee
  • Tea
  • Wine
  • Blueberries
  • Food dyes

Though they are incredibly strong and durable, veneers are not impervious to harm. Keeping up with appointments allows your dentist to regularly clean and examine them to ensure they don’t deteriorate. Not only that, but habitual check-ins also keep your remaining natural teeth in prime condition! Avoid additional corrective procedures down the road by practicing proactive dental care now.

By following these tips, you will preserve both your veneers, as well as your natural teeth, for the long haul. You can move forward confidently knowing that you have invested in a perfect smile that will last!

I over the years we’ve had different dentists, some good and some okay, but this one is the best . They provide an outstanding service, they work with your schedule, they are not crazy with any fees, and they make sure you don’t miss your appointment (they email you in advance, then they text you and give you a courtesy call the day before). We are super happy with this dental clinic and with the doctor, she is so nice .
