Who's a Good Candidate for Dentures?
There are several different tooth replacement options, and dentures in particular are used for patients who are missing most or all of their teeth. If you’re only missing one or two, you may be better served by another method of tooth replacement.
Dentures also adhere directly to the gums via suction, which makes the health of your gums particularly important. If you’re suffering from gum disease, we may need to treat you for the condition before fitting you for your prosthetic.
Effects of Missing Teeth
In addition to hindering your ability to eat nutritious foods and impairing your appearance, not replacing missing teeth can have a devastating effect on any remaining teeth you still have. These teeth shift out of their usual alignment, which changes your bite, and the jawbone underneath degrades without tooth roots for stimulation. Eventually, you become at a higher risk of additional tooth loss. Types of Dentures

Partial Dentures

Full dentures, on the other hand, are designed for those patients who are missing all of their teeth on their gum ridge. Unlike partial dentures, they’re designed to fit snugly against the gums and stay secure via suction.
Implant Dentures
Implant dentures are a common upgrade for patients who have had traditional prosthetics for a while and are looking for more stability. A set of dentures is attached to dental implants, metal posts that are surgically implanted into the jaw.
This stimulates the jaw, preventing bone reabsorption and ensuring a more secure fit in the long-term. The implants can also prevent the dentures from slipping, making eating and talking substantially easier.
