Root Canal Treatment – Burke, VA

Saving Teeth By Eliminating the Pain

Root canals have a bad reputation and are often misunderstood to be painful procedures. This could not be further from the truth, as this type of treatment is designed to target the source of the tooth pain – the infection – and remove it. When the pulp, which is the innermost layer of the tooth, becomes damaged or infected, it causes significant discomfort and poses a threat to your oral health. By removing this area and repairing it with malleable materials and a customized dental crown, Dr. Ashraghi can save your tooth from extraction and ensure better oral health in the future. What Happens During Root Canal Treatment?

When preparing for a root canal, you will first receive local anesthesia and sedation dentistry if necessary. This will ensure you are pain-free throughout the procedure and comfortable. We will then use a dental dam to isolate the tooth before Dr. Ashraghi uses specialized dental instruments to make a small opening in the crown of the tooth. After cleaning out the canals and removing the pulp that is causing the pain, she will use what is known as gutta percha to fill in the tooth’s structure.

A customized dental crown will then be created and placed over the tooth when ready. This will protect it from future reinfection and damage, allowing your tooth to strengthen over time.
