Scaling & Root Planing
To treat periodontal disease (gum disease), we must first diagnose the problem with a thorough exam. If we discover gum pocket formations around your teeth, we will likely recommend scaling and root planing, also known as deep cleaning. During this process, we will remove any plaque buildup around your teeth and under the gumline (scaling) before smoothing out the tooth roots (root planing) to encourage reattachment.
Antibiotic Therapy
In combination with scaling and root planing, we may also suggest antibiotic therapy because of its ability to target bacteria that are deep within the gum pockets. By applying it to the area, the medication will disperse in the following days and weeks, eliminating harmful bacteria and encouraging the healing of the gum tissues.
